Get Tangled Challenge at Canvas Corp Brands!

Today over at Canvas Corp Brands we have a new crew challenge happening!  Lets get Tangled!!!  The Canvas Corp Brands Tattered Tangle line expands as the art of the doodle becomes more and more popular.  This therapeutic craft is a great way to relax, unwind and let you creativity flow, however if the fear of the doodle is within you…Tattered Tangles is at your service.  The collection is filled with a variety of 12×12 Tattered Tangles Papers and Tangle Packs (12 different doodle pieces in a pack)- there are 8 styles to choose from.
Here's my take on the Tangles!  I chose to make a little Tangled Tag!!!  I coloured the doodles with my copic markers (which work great on the leather paper).  Then I used some Glitter Ritz glitter and double sided Sakura tape and covered the entire surface with glitter.  I burnished the glitter with my finger and it finishes like suede!!!  So pretty!  It also mutes the harsh dark lines of the doodles for this project!

Here's a close up:

Go on a journey with us to see how our Creative Crew Gets Tangled.   Head over to the Canvas Corp Brands Blog to see what the Crew have to show you!  We hope that these amazing projects inspire you to do a little doodling, do a little coloring and let your creativity run wild.   If you are not sure that this style of art is up your alley, you will want to see how our Crew members approached their projects with their own design style. Now go on and Get Tangled!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

The Key to my heart is ART!! Crew 4x4 challenge...

Happy Valentines Day!  Well the news is officially out!  Canvas Corp Brands has finally announced the members of their new Creative Crew members!  Like I said before, I'm super excited to have been given this great opportunity and be working along side such an amazing bunch of designers!

We were all given a challenge to kick off this great announcement and that was to create a 4x4 canvas that describes who you are as a designer!  Please head over to the Canvas Corp Brands Blog and check out all the different 4x4's!  They're all incredible!

Here is my take on this challenge.  I love working on small pieces, although it wasn't really challenging for me to work on such a small canvas it was a challenge on what to do with it.  What to do, what to always starts with that question....then I just dove right in and grabbed my favourite stencil of the moment, some acrylic paints, glimmer mists and molding paste and just went for it!

I wanted to create lots of texture and depth and some visual interest so I added a little tiny metal lock to the middle heart.

The key to my heart is ART!

What's the key to your heart?  I hope you check out the Canvas Corp Blog and take a look at the amazing 4x4 canvases!  Such inspiration!
Thanks for stopping by!

Thursday, February 5, 2015 to win with Canvas Corp!!!

Happy February everyone!  I've been keeping a little secret and I think its time to share!  I've been invited to be a part of the Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew!  I'll be working along side an amazing crew of talented designers over the next year and am so super excited!  The big Creative Crew announcement will be on February 14, but I wanted to share my little secret today!

In anticipation of Valentines Day, the Creative Crew at Canvas Corp have whipped up some Valentines Day Cards!

There's more!  We have a big Pin & Win Giveaway on the Canvas Corp Brands website!  Click the pic below and it will take you to the website with all the details!!!

For this Creative Crew challenge, we were all given a blank card to create a Valentines Day Card.  I chose the mixed media route and this is what I came up with!  I am planning on giving this to my husband.  I know this doesn't seem like a big stretch but we aren't the 'Hallmark Holiday' type.  I would rather give him or someone I love a card to tell them how special they are to me on a day when they aren't expecting it.  Know what I mean?  So I know he will be super surprised when he receives it on Valentines Day....

I used some Peerless watercolors for the background then used some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Sprays and a stencil to create some texture for the card base.  I splattered more Glimmer Mist on the card base then added a layer of cheesecloth followed by a layer of corrugated paper painted with some Tattered Angels High Impact paint in Aqua.  I had some burlap Thickers and painted them randomly with some of the High Impact paint as well.

I hope you play along with us for your chance to win a $50.00 gift certificate to Canvas Corp Brands online store!  Check it out!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a good one!

Artblock Goodness...

Hello everyone!  Today I'm sharing with you a painting I did a while back.  Its been a bit of a work in progress adding things here and there etc...I have a hard time finishing projects.  I need to learn to just walk away satisfied when I think I'm else have the same problem?..I just have to keep puttering away...oh is what it is...right?

This piece was painted on a 4x3" piece of wood block (2" deep).  I sanded the rough edges a bit then laid down some gesso for my base.  I love how the texture of the wood block comes through on the edges and the surface.  This piece also features some great embellishments from Pretty Pink Posh (little micro sequins) and Chic Tags (wood veneer 'Goodness' sentiment).

Not sure if you can tell from the closeup but I used an abundance of Canvas Corp - Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist sprays on the wood veneer 'sentiment'.  Lots of shimmery 'goodness'....

I hope you spread some goodness today!  Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Crazy for Gelli printing!!!

I finished this project way back in the summer when I was addicted to Gelli printing!!!  Yes, once you start you can't stop!  In the end, what to do with all the beautiful prints?  Make a book!

I used a bunch of prints of that had the same colour scheme!

I found a cute little cut file on the Silhouette store by (Lori Whitlock) and made a little mini journal book out of all the Gelli prints shown above!

Binded it together with some ivory brads.

I added some of my favourite quote stamps for inspiration:

Then I finished off the cover with some mini banners and wood letters coloured with Gelatos® .

I also found a cut file for this adorable little match book and used up all the left over scrappy goodness from the Gelli prints.  I added some banners with some hand written words using some india ink and a bamboo brush.

I loved making these prints and books!  All you need is a Gelli Plate (Gelli Arts), a roller, some paper and paint and you're off to the races!!!

Hoping to get my next round of Gelli prints on video to show you the fun addictive process it is!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Here's my daughters tribute, poppies painted with her fingerprints and lots of sparkle!

Remembrance Day, November 11th.

Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the men and women who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict and peace. We remember the more than 1,500,000 Canadians who have served throughout our nation’s history and the more than 118,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Thank you!

Paper, pencils and gelatos, oh my!!!

Happy Thursday all!  Just a quick little post showing you what you can do with a piece of paper, a quick sketch with a pencil, some pencil crayons and of course some Gelatos®!

I roughly sketched out my girl.  I don't really care that she's not perfect, or that its 'scribbly', I like that look and am trying to find my way in drawing faces...

I took my Prismacolor Pencil crayons and went to work bringing her face to life...I use a blending stump and some gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) to blend the pencil crayons...

I thought I would try a different medium for the hair and took a black Double Scoop Gelato® and went to work laying down the colour and blending wtih my fingers...

I wanted to add a background so I used the Double Scoop Gelatos® in Raspberry and Silver Ice.

Blended it in with my finger to create a smooth finish.

Its fun to just play around and test out different mediums.  I'll keep working on my faces, they're coming along slowly but surely...

Try something new today, get creative and have fun!!!

Love you to the moon and back...

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today I'm sharing with you a mini canvas (2x2) I did a while back.  I love working on tiny surfaces, I love the detail work as you can see from the banner.  It is fiddly and a bit fussy but it calms me!

For this little canvas I started with a wash for the background using Gelatos in a variety of pinks and purples.  I then added some drips of india ink straight from the bottle dropper and added some black gelatos around the side edges.  I cut out little triangles from some scrap designer paper and glued them to some scrappers floss and added some stickles.  A few more splatters, doodles and the added sentiment from Unity Stamps and it was all done!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

A little mish mash....

So I've been down and out in bed for the past week with a not-so-nice cold and friends on fb were probably wondering what got into me with the influx of activity that was going on as I'm not a huge 'facebooker', but the good thing about it is I've caught up with some unfinished business in my blog world so stay tuned for a blast of posts coming your way.... ;)

I'm sharing with you today a journal page I did way back in April and a few favourite finds from my past shopping adventures!

This is the first journal page I finished in my smaller art journal (my favourite journal to use - Dylusions Creative Journal by Dyan Reaveley 5x8 by Ranger).  I was simply just playing around with some new stencils, paint, and india ink.  I know it looks so "dark" and "meaninful" with the black drips of ink pouring from the heart and the word love.....but it was really just me playing around with my new dropper tool and trying to write with different types of india ink - which I love by the way!!!

I picked up these super cool block-printing stamps by Blockwallah on a trip we made to New York City with some good friends way back in June.  We were only there for an extended weekend but the crafty minority of the bunch had our sights set on making it to The Ink Pad.  As soon as I saw them I knew I had to have them!  Blockwallah Wooden Stamps are hand carved in India so each one is unique and speaks of the craftsmanship of its artist. Crafted in a range of contemporary and traditional designs these wooden stamps will give your art a truly unique quality. Blockwallah can be used on both fabric and paper. Blockwallah works closely with local artisans in India providing impoverished women with employment throughout the production process.

Stay tuned for upcoming projects featuring these stamps!

And lastly, my favourite thing that sits on my desk right now is this new pencil case by BlueQ.  I have a healthy collection of their tins, bags, zipper pouches and pencil cases that I keep my art supplies in and this one is by far my favourite!  It speaks for itself I think!

Some of my favourite quotes:  (had to share today)

Spread love everywhere you go.  Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.  ~Mother Teresa

Well there you have it!  A little catch up and a glimpse of what lies in my messy art space.  More coming your way!  Have a great weekend and as always thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Hellllooooo!  Me again, back with another post and some happy news!  I will be designing again for the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft design team this fall!  I'm so honoured and thankful to be picked again for this amazing team and to work with such a talented bunch of designers!  Cant wait to show you my creations!

Here's a little 'teaser' using some Design Memory Craft Gelatos® on watercolour paper and paired with a fabulous sentiment stamp from Unity Stamps!

Such a fun and easy card to make!  The added sequins are a fun touch!

Anyway, stay tuned for some Design Memory Craft goodness to come your way!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great week!

Yahoo for Yupo!!!

Hi everyone!  Summers are always super busy for me but I always manage to find some time to play around in my little studio. I know its been a while but I've got something super fun for you today!

I've been playing around with my watercolours on some Yupo paper!  Its so much fun to experiment and push the paint around the paper!  The results are super cool!

Yupo is a unique alternative to traditional art papers. It's a synthetic paper, machine-made of 100% polypropylene. It is waterproof, stain-resistant, and extremely strong and durable.

Here are my first two attempts just playing around.  I used a wax resist technique and drew in the subject before painting.

If you can get your hands on some Yupo you must try it!  It also works beautifully with alcohol inks as well as gouache.

Until next time, happy creating!  Thanks for stopping by!

No boys allowed! Hazel & Ruby stencil masks save the day again....

Sorry I've been missing in action lately.  Tennis season has started so I'm back teaching until the snow covers up the courts for another year!  But anyone who knows me knows I can't stay away from my art supplies!  I'm not going anywhere!

So my little one has been asking to make an artsy sign for her door with some of my Hazel & Ruby stencil masks.  She knew exactly what she wanted it to say:  'No boys allowed, except dads, brothers, cousins and any nice boys'.  We had to condense it a bit for the sake of

Here's how it turned out:

We used some PPA (matte) to adhere the pretty paper
to a 12x12 canvas.  (let dry completely - we did a whole bunch the night before)

Next, we simply added our letters to the canvas.

She then painted over the entire canvas using acrylic paint.

Since acrylic paint dries pretty fast we didn't have to wait too long to peel off the letters.
(a heat gun also helps ;)

We wanted to add a bit of distress to it so we added some strokes of Tim Holtz distress paint in Picket Fence.  We also took the bottom of paint bottle and dabbed it into some orange paint to make some random circles on the canvas.  Then I took my beloved india ink pens from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft and added a bit of shading around the letters to help them stand out.

Such a fun project to do together with fabulous results!!!  The stencil masks from Hazel & Ruby make it super quick and easy even for kids!  Love it!!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great week!
